 NEWS: 5-7-07

The big news from this week-end was the West Coast Invitational (WCI). What once started as a one night rail jam in the Village, has grown into a full-fledged week-end of high-octane events. After some cool weather blew through on Friday typical great E. Sierra weather prevailed and the events took place as planned.
Saturday night was the Village Rail Jam, which drew a massive crowd and some of snowboarding's most talented jibbers. This year's set-up was truly a step above all previous courses. The drop-in was a full three stories high leading the competitors down a multi-feature face complete with a wall ride. Many tricks were executed throughout the 1 hour jam session but in the end it was Jonas Michilot who walked away with 1st place and the loot.
Sunday brought even better weather which allowed for an very festive Vans 'Fiesta de la Pipa' 1/2 Pipe Comp. The Mammoth Unbound Park Staff did a great job of setting up the freshly cut pipe with an assortment of boxes and jibs. Creativity and endurance were key as competitors lapped the pipe throughout a 3 hour jam session with hope's of earning some WCI cash. Once again it was Jonas Michilot rising to the occasion and earning 1st in the pipe jam and title of King of WCI '07.
New to this week-end's events were snomobile freestyle demos held at the base of Mammoth Main Lodge. This was definitely a nice added bonus. The impression that these snomobilers left with most spectators was, "are you kidding me?!" Have a look at the Clip of the Week to see just how 'off-the wall' these guys will go. Also, for some pics of the Pipe Comp and Rail Jam check out the Gallery. A big THANKS to Brahm Goodis for all his photo contributions. And check back soon as we'll be putting up a short edit of the past week-end's events.
