Yesterday Mammoth's 2006/2007 winter season came to a close. Considering that Mammoth only received 231" of snow this season it is very impressive that MMSA was able to remain open up to Memorial Day. Our hats go off to MMSA's staff, top to bottom, for all their hard work and for bringing us another memorable season.
In one respect it's sad to think that the off-season is here and that the incomparable sensation of gliding on snow will have to wait until next November. All the same it's important to have time away from things that you love so that you may gain perspective and appreciation. And that's what's beautiful about the tradition of Closing Day at Mammoth. Many turn out, locals and non, mostly season pass-holders, to celebrate the conclusion of another season of unforgettable memories. This Memorial Day was no exception.
Memorial Day is a national holiday that is representative of many things. Memorial Day is a day to honor those that have served in the armed forces so that freedom and true democracy will forever prosper in this world. I also believe there is no better way to honor the memory of our fallen heroes than by celebrating life and all the joy and beauty that it brings. Here at Mammoth, for Memorial Day 2007, that is just what we did. Playing in the beautiful mountains, sharing with friends and family, laughing, smiling and reveling in the good times we've had, celebrating the good times to come. These are the times to cherish all the beautiful things that make life so good. Thanks to the most honorable men and women of the US armed forces we are so fortunate to be able to do just that. For this our hats go off to all that have served and are serving our country and their families. Our hearts and prayers are with you.
